CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: SEX WORK AND HIV TRAINING PROGRAM

The International Committee on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe is happy to launch the call for participants for the European Red Umbrella Academy: Sex Work & HIV Training Programme today.
The European Red Umbrella Academy: Sex Work & HIV Training Programme consists of coordination of a regional sex worker and HIV activists training, bringing together 24 activists from 8 countries, followed by a national one-day training for local sex workers communities on topics related to HIV. Furthermore, the project includes development of briefing papers on topics identified by the participants for advocacy and education purposes. The programme will be implemented in partnership by ICRSE and European AIDS Treatment Group.
Who can apply?
Sex workers interested in developing their knowledge relating to sex work and HIV
HIV activists interested in developing their knowledge on sex work issues and supporting sex worker self-organisation
Applicants must be based in a European or Central Asian country.
The programme is particularly targeting sex workers and HIV activists in countries with limited or emerging sex workers’ rights movement where partnership between sex workers and HIV activists can contribute to better services and policies on sex work and HIV.
We expect the trainees to come equipped with a fairly good understanding of HIV transmission, HIV treatment and HIV prevention and related co-infections and to have an aspiration to go in depth and increase their knowledge and capacity on the topics addressed by the programme. Trainings will be held in English and will cover the following topics:
Introduction to HIV: HIV life cycle, transmission, treatment options, history of HIV
HIV combination prevention
Realities of sex work in Europe
Needs and barriers of different groups of sex workers with regards to access to HIV services
Specific vulnerabilities: stigma and discrimination, criminalization
Collaboration possibilities between sex workers and HIV activists
The programme training will take place from 19 - 22 March 2020 (location tbc).
The first day will be the date of arrival only. Training will take place over the 3 follow days that follow arrival consisting of two full days and half a day on the day of departure.
ICRSE and EATG will cover all accommodation, travel and food expenses of the trainers during the whole duration of the training module.
Applicants can apply individually or in country-teams of up to three people. ICRSE and EATG will aim to select 24 activists from 8 countries, with a minimum of 2/3 sex workers.
Successful applicants will also be required to coordinate a one day training, workshop or public event at the local level as a follow up of the training. Small funding will be available for this follow-up activities.
